How does the Live Streaming service work?
By installing a live video encoder (typically, the only piece of hardware or software required) wherever your programming originates, you're able to stream your regular programming live over the Internet. LightWay's PEG/Local Access streaming service is compatible with virtually any H.264 video encoder — whether it be a software or hardware encoder. Thus, you can "bring your own encoder" if you should desire.
If you do not have your own video encoder, we have a number of encoders available for you to choose from. You may either purchase these encoders through us or from another reseller. The typical cost of a video encoder is between $475 and $4,900 — depending on the type of encoder selected. All will allow for 24/7 streaming of your programming.
What are the differences between LightWay's Live Streaming and the competitors?
There are many differences between LightWay and the competition. Here are a few of the major differences:
- All Live Streams are Transcoded — in this day and age, you simply can not afford to exclude any segment of viewers. Many of our competitors, especially the ones targeting Local Access/PEG providers will not transcode their live streams. As a result, streams are often jittery or will not load at all on mobile devices such as phones and tablets with unreliable Internet connections.
- Flat Rate Pricing for Unlimited Streaming — for our Local Access/PEG customers, we offer one low flat rate annual price per channel streamed live. We also are able to offer monthly pricing for those that do not like annual commitments.
- With us, support is personal — many of us at LightWay have backgrounds in Local Access/PEG — we understand the challenges surrounding your positions. We work one-on-one with you to resolve any issues as soon as they arise. Whether it be late night or early morning, we are available via phone, e-mail, and text message.

Video Archiving allows your viewers to watch the programming they're looking for on their own time, from just about any Internet friendly device. Whether it be a town meeting, high school graduation or football game: Index Points (Chapters), offered by LightWay's Archive Manager, will help your viewers find the part of the video they are looking for easily.
